After nearly two years of highly-publicized fraud incidents and educational efforts, why do pay-at-the-pump skimming attacks continue unabated?

The latest news: Police in West Wendover, Nev., have issued a warning about card skimming at area ATMs and pay-at-the-pump gasoline terminals. The pubic warning was spurred by recent reports from Wendover residents of upticks in fraudulent transactions hitting their credit and debit cards. Read more.

On 9 August 2011, Visa announced plans to accelerate contact and contactless EMV chip technology migration in the U.S., and provided a roadmap to help guide industry investments in payment infrastructure. Investments in chip technology will accelerate the adoption of mobile payments, enhance international card acceptance and improve security through the use of dynamic authentication elements.

EMV, a globally interoperable industry standard for chip payments, is a flexible platform designed to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders worldwide.
